I think I may have figured out why the New York Yankee$ do not put numbers on their uniforms.

It probably began a long time ago when the Yankee$ management didn't want the press or the public to know who was who...in other words, so no one could tell which over-paid moron to blame for any and all losses that the Yankee$ experience.

The Joe Torre-less Yankees are not going to the playoffs for the first time since 1994 (when there was no postseason due to the players’ strike), and as a baseball fan, I feel like something will be missing from this year’s postseason.  Even I – a self-proclaimed Yankee-hater (but NOT a Sox fan) – am genuinely sorry to see the Red Sox reach October with more baseball to play while that team from New York is going home early.  While I’m thrilled that the Rays are playoff-bound, it does not seem right that there’s no chance of a Yankee-Red Sox showdown in 2008.

eo Epstein called Mike Mussina a “bad apple” for comments Mussina made after he and the Yankees traveled to Japan to begin the 2004 season.  (Who wouldn’t be tired after a 17-hour flight?)  Theo Epstein is no idiot, but what was he thinking?  Of all the Yankee pitchers to criticize right now, why choose Mussina?  I’ll admit my bias – Moose used to be Baltimore’s ace, and even though it killed me to see him put on pinstripes for the first time seven years ago, I still like the guy.  But Andy Pettitte and Roger Clemens (allegedly) CHEATED!  What am I missing here?
