Daniel Cabrera

O’s notes

Daniel Cabrera reminds me of former Oriole Sidney Ponson.  Other than the fact that Cabrera has never attacked a judge in his native country, the two have followed remarkably similar career paths.  Both showed flashes of brilliance on the mound early in their career but never seemed to reach their full potential.  Both are experts at allowing big innings, giving up the long ball with runners on base, and when it comes to control – throwing more wild pitches and walking more batters per nine innings than I previously thought possible.

spite his recent bout with arm soreness, I think I’ve finally figured out who Orioles pitcher Daniel Cabrera is… Daniel Cabrera is baseball's equivalent of the former Oakland Raiders wide receiver, Jerry Porter. Here's the comparison... Who did Porter get to work with while with Oakland? Two of the NFL's all-time greatest receivers… Jerry Rice & Tim Brown Who was Porter’s coach in Oakland? Fred Biletnikoff, Hall-of-Fame receiver... Who did he line up against in practice almost everyday during the first few seasons of his NFL career? All-Pro Cornerback (at that time) Charles Woodson & soon-to-be Hall-of-Famer Rod Woodson Who was Woodson's coach & someone available to Porter to pick his brain while in Oakland?... First of all Daniel Cabrera (6-6) has been totally struggling recently with only two wins in his last 13 starts. Cabrera needs to stay focused and in control or else we could have another 7-1 loss, like his game against Toronto on Thursday. But, like most other Orioles, Cabrera has shined against the Yankees, with a 2.77 ERA against the Bombers this season.

p struggling, the team needs all of the offensive help it can get.  I was also thrilled to see Daniel Cabrera’s line against the Royals – a complete game, just three hits allowed, seven strikeouts and most impressive, just ONE walk surrendered.
