Who is Daniel Cabrera?

Despite his recent bout with arm soreness, I think I’ve finally figured out who Orioles pitcher Daniel Cabrera is… Daniel Cabrera is baseball's equivalent of the former Oakland Raiders wide receiver, Jerry Porter. Here's the comparison... Who did Porter get to work with while with Oakland? Two of the NFL's all-time greatest receivers… Jerry Rice & Tim Brown Who was Porter’s coach in Oakland? Fred Biletnikoff, Hall-of-Fame receiver... Who did he line up against in practice almost everyday during the first few seasons of his NFL career? All-Pro Cornerback (at that time) Charles Woodson & soon-to-be Hall-of-Famer Rod Woodson Who was Woodson's coach & someone available to Porter to pick his brain while in Oakland?... Hall-of-Fame defensive back Willie Brown. Why isn’t Porter the number one receiver in the NFL every year? OK...Now...let’s look at Daniel Cabrera… Who has D-Cab worked with in his Orioles minor league career? 20 game winner and former Oriole pitching great, Scott McGregor Who has D-Cab had as coaches in his Orioles major league career? Ray Miller, Leo Mazone and Rick Kranitz...3 of the baseball's best pitching coaches, since George Bamberger. Who does D-Cab have at his disposal for "brain-picking while in Baltimore?" in the Orioles TV booth, 3-time Cy Young winner & Hall-of-Famer Jim Palmer...and, in the warehouse, Orioles executive and Cy Young winner Mike Flanagan. Why doesn’t Cabrera have a mantle full of Cy Young awards by now? If I had access to all of this knowledge and experience, I’d listen to everything I could hear, tape record all their conversations about pitching or receiving and pull these all-time greats to the side for any little tidbits they could give me…just to have that edge…that advantage over my opponents...that little intangible that would make me a winner just like them. Both, with this wealth of information at their footsteps...and still, they think they know everything. Are they young and stupid? Are they stubborn? Are they too ashamed to ask for help? Porter signed a new deal with Jacksonville Jaguars…and Cabrera has shown both signs of brilliance and signs that make you just want to say…”What the…?” Besides a foot up the backside, I’m not sure what will set Daniel Cabrera right. And maybe a change of scenery will help Jerry Porter. Daniel Cabrera and Jerry Porter...separated at birth??? Hmmmmm…
